About Us

OWNER AND CHIEF GUIDE MIKE MADDEN IS A PROFESSIONALLY QUALIFIED IFMGA MOUNTAIN AND SKI GUIDE BASED IN QUEENSTOWN, NEW ZEALAND. MIKE HAS OVER 15 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE MOUNTAINEERING, CLIMBING, HIKING, SKIING, AND GUIDING IN NEW ZEALAND'S SOUTHERN ALPS AND MANY OTHER MOUNTAIN RANGES AROUND THE WORLD.

New Zealand’s Southern Alps is our backyard and we have years of experience climbing, skiing, and guiding in every corner of this incredible mountain range.

Over the winter season Mike works as a senior heli-skiing guide and avalanche forecaster, and  and guide backcountry ski touring and ski mountaineering trips. In the summer I guide ascents of New Zealand’s highest mountains.

Mike has climbed, skied and worked as a professional mountain guide, ski guide, and expedition guide in the Himalayas (Everest, Cho Oyu, Lobuche, Island Peak), Alaska, Canada, Japan's Northern Alps, the United States, the European Alps and Carstensz Pyramid.

Mike is a passionate climbing and ski photographer and enjoys capturing the incredible landscapes and unique experiences in the mountain environment.

The challenge of matching different skill levels, locations, and mountain activities keeps Mike motivated to continue this lifestyle. Queenstown Mountain Guides goal is to present you some of the best climbing and skiing experiences you’ve ever had.
