Hiking on the Remarkables Thumbnil

Hiking on the Remarkables

Hiking in the Remarkables takes you on a journey into a steep and rugged mountain landscape, carved by glaciers and with high alpine peaks. Single and Double Cone the highest mountains in the Remarkables range dominate the landscape towering above the glacial valley or cirque.

A highlight of this hike is visiting the turquoise blue Lake Alta sitting in a natural amphitheater, you will also see alpine wetlands, schist rock outcrops, and unique flora and fauna as well as incredible views of Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown, and the surrounding mountains.

Our guided hike begins at the top of the Remarkables ski field road. A short walk brings us to the edge of the ski field where we head into the backcountry.  From here cairns mark the path through the alpine wetlands as we climb up to a glacial cirque and Lake Alta. From Lake Alta we climb to Wye pass to gain views of the Doolans and the spectacular scenery of the Remarkables Conservation area.
