2 Day Outdoor Rock Climbing Course

The 2 Day Outdoor Rock Climbing Course is course for anyone that wants to learn how to climb outdoors. We have designed a course to teach you foundation rock climbing skills. No previous climbing experience is necessary. 

The focus of the 2 day course is on teaching skills to safely enjoy climbing in the outdoors. On this course you will learn the most current techniques and protocols under the supervision and support of an expert climbing instructor. 

We base the 2 Day Outdoor Rock Climbing course at Wye Creek in Queenstown. This is one of the best and most scenic climbing areas in New Zealand and a great place for teaching rock climbing skills.

  • Climbing technique - slab climbing, face climbing, crack climbing
  • Introduction to climbing equipment: use, care, selection
  • Introduction to climbing knots
  • Techniques for belaying

Sample Itinerary

Day 1

  • Your guide will pick you up from your accomodation at 8.30am.
  • We will start the course looking at the use, care, and selection of climbing gear.
  • Introduction of basic climbing knots and hitches. 
  • Introduction to climbing commands and belay technique.
  • Hazard assessment & safety
  • Develop an understanding of climbing grades.
  • Develop techniques for climbing beginner and intermediate rock climbs.

Day 2

  • Introduce prussic knots, overhand knots, and clove hitch knot
  • Lesson on building an anchor for top rope climbing
  • Learn how to abseil/rappel
  • Continue with techniques for beginner and intermediate rock climbs
  • Introduction to natural protection

We run our rock climbing day trips in the summer season from October through until the end of April.

Experience Required

No experience necessary. Our guided rock climbing trips is individually tailored to the participants level of experience.
