2 Day Lead Climbing Course

Learn to lead climb in Queenstown. For many climbers the most challenging and potentially dangerous challenge is making the transition into lead climbing. There are so many new skills to learn and become proficient at to remain safe at all times.

The 2 day Lead Climbing Course will give you the skills to safely and successfully lead single pitch bolted climbs while continuing to develop your movement on rock skills. 

By the end of the 2 days you will have the skills and confidence to safely lead climb without supervision. These skills will include communication and correct and safe procedures for lowering off or abseiling from the top of a climb.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1

Our guide will pick you up from your accomodation at 8.30am. It is a 20 minute drive from Queenstown to the Wye Creek Climbing area carpark. From here it is a very scenic and spectacular walk up to the Wye Creek climbing area.

Over the 2 days our guide will work with you teaching and supporting your development as a lead climber. Expect the 2 days to be fun but also challenging. The course will be a combination of climbing and skills workshops.

Day 2 

We will continue to develop the skills training from day 1 with a focus on helping you become a confident and independent lead climber. In case of poor weather in Queenstown we may drive to the climbing areas in Wanaka if the conditions are better there.

Summer Season

We run our rock climbing courses in the summer season from October through until the end of April.

Experience Required

For the Lead Climbing Course you should have experience climbing outside and be able to comfortably top rope grade 16 or harder climbs.
