Lake Alta Slabs

The Lake Alta Slabs are Queenstown Mountain Guides favourite multi-pitch alpine rock climbing areas. The lake Alta slabs are distinguished by excellent rock quality and spectacular views of Lake Alta and the surround Remarkable's Range. This area has 3 pitch climbs from grade 15-19 and it is possible to climb several routes in a single day of climbing. Descent is by abseil back to the base of the climbs.

North East Buttress - Single Cone

The classic north east buttress of Single Cone is a multi-pitch rock route leading to the summit of Single Cone. The route involves steep and exposed scrambling high above Lake Alta with some pitches of steeper rock. This is an excellent alternative to the standard ascent route on Single Cone if you are looking for a more interesting and challenging climb.

West Face of the Remarkables

This climbing area is located 2000m up the steep and exposed west face of the Remarkables high above Lake Wakatipu. The incredible views of Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding mountains combined with the good quality schist rock make this a stunning climbing area. The four pitch 3 star classic Indian Summer (grade 18) is our favourite climb on the west face.  The multi-pitch rock routes on the west face of the Remarkables suit climbers with previous rock climbing experience that can follow grade 18 and remove traditional protection.
